How it works
The frosted copy is made on your own phone before anything is uploaded. Only that frosted copy becomes your public photo. The original goes straight into a separate private storage area; it is never placed in the normal photo storage first, not even briefly.
Who can open the original is decided by server-side storage rules, not by the app hiding a picture on screen. You can always see your own. A member you are currently matched with can see it, and an accepted voice approach creates that match. Everyone else, including other signed-in members and visitors, is refused. A block or an unmatch removes access again.
